The 10Best Cars awards compile vehicles that best satisfy every reasonable want and need for the average driver. They don’t have to be the newest cars on the market, or the most expensive – in fact, nothing over $80,000 is allowed for consideration.
Car and Driver noted that despite the roominess of the vehicle, the Honda Accord has a notable lightness, precision, and perfectly matched primary controls that give a surprising sporty performance to the car. With 33 mpg on the highway*, and a fully-equipped EX version that costs just a little over $25,000, there was no doubting its designation as a member of the 10Best Cars list.
The Honda Fit was a winner with its first-class space and cargo capacity. Hailing its imaginative engineering on such a small car, Car and Driver pointed out that the spacious interior offers a completely flat load floor with 57 cubic feet of cargo volume – 13 more cubic feet than the Ford Explorer with its third row folded back. In other arenas, the Fit was noted for its supremely constructed chassis and five-speed manual.
This isn’t the first time Car and Driver has recognized the innovation and performance of the two models. The Honda Accord has made it on the 10Best Cars list 26 times in the 30 years that the magazine has been conducting the competition, winning the award more than any other vehicle in the award’s history. The Honda Fit has made the list in each of the six years that it has been on sale in the United States.
